Live Excavations

Monday to Friday from April to September every year the Vindolanda Trust invites volunteers to come, gain a greater understanding of Vindolanda, and to get hands on with the archaeology. We have a team of 3 full-time archaeologists who work year round and they train our volunteers, who stay for 2 week periods at a time. This means we have lots of expertise on hand for our volunteers while they excavate. When you come to visit you can come right up to the edge of the excavation area, chat to our volunteers and archaeologists and see what they have been getting up to. You may even witness an artefact being found! Don't miss out on this fantastic experience when you come to visit Hadrian's Wall.
