Jaw-dropping geology, formidable fortresses, intriguing science, stunning art... Hadrian's Wall Country offers experiences across the National Curriculum.

A rich history
The border country of England and Scotland continued to have a rich and sometimes violent history long after the Romans. The area is scattered with castles and keeps, priories and abbeys.

An artistic legacy
Many museums have a gallery section. There are also contemporary galleries such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Epic landscapes
The Romans took full advantage of the area's geology when building Hadrian's Wall. They used the line of north-facing cliffs created by the outcrop of the Great Whin Sill. The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre provides a deeper understanding of its history-changing geography.
