Slayley: 4.5 square miles with scenic footpaths through forests and farm-land. Many farmers' wives provide excellent B&B or self-catering accommodation. Caravan parks at- (touring) Rye Hill House & Springhouse, (static) Townfoot & Springhouse. The Travellers Rest and The Rose & Crown both do meals daily. Slayley Hall Hotel, Leisure Centre and Golf Course are signposted from all main roads in south Tynedale. Annual parish events include Slayley School Summer Fete (June). Slayley Show at Townfield (second Saturday August). Slayley Annual Leek and Flower Show (October). Slayley Church Christmas Fayre (November). Ladycross stone quarry with a guided walk through its nature reserve is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, alternatively a leisurely stroll to Juliet's Wood or purchase honey, eggs, or local books from Slayley Post office. Slayley is full of surprises: Alpacas graze fields along the Old Lead Road or glimpse Highland Cattle on the Reaston Hills.
