Birdoswald Roman Fort
Birdoswald is the place to see the longest surviving stretch of Hadrian’s Wall and extensive remains of a Roman Fort.
Pick up a leaflet for a picturesque circular walk that takes in the Wall, Fort milecastles, turrets, Roman bridge over the River Irthing, wildlife, an orchard and clear evidence of the turf wall that preceded Hadrian’s Wall itself.
The attraction also comprises of:
- An exhibition - a full size model of the Wall, interesting display about the story of the fort and its local landscape.
- Birdoswald Tearoom - rest your weary legs and enjoy tearoom treats whilst walking or cycling the Hadrian's Wall National Trail

Birdoswald Roman Fort & Museum is open for you to visit. You now need to book your timed tickets in advance. English Heritage have introduced limits on visitor numbers to help keep everyone safe, and you won’t be able to visit without your booking confirmation. If you’re a Member for English Heritage, your ticket will be free, but you still need to book in advance.
