Lanercost
In the peaceful Irthing Valley and close to the route of Hadrian’s Wall, Lanercost is well known for its 12th century Augustine Priory and royal connections. In 1306/7 it provided a resting place for the mortally ill King Edward I and his household during what was to be his final campaign.
The Hadrian’s Wall Visitor Information Centre at Lanercost Tea Rooms is a great starting point for exploring the area. The tea rooms serve great home cooked food and you can stock up on locally produced products and gifts in the shop.
