Roman Vindolanda

Vindolanda was a Roman auxiliary fort just south of Hadrian's Wall. Archaeological excavations of the site show it was under Roman occupation from roughly 85 AD to 370 AD and have uncovered amazing finds, now on display in the fantastic on-site museum.

Wallsend

Wallsend derives its name as the location of the end of Hadrian's Wall. The town hosted the fort Segedunum which protected the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. In dedication to the Romans, Latin signs are dotted throughout the town.

The three-mile stretch of Hadrian's Wall that survives west of Birdoswald Roman Fort in Cumbria tells us much about how the Wall worked and developed.

Temple of Mithras

A fascinating temple dedicated to the god beloved by Roman soldiers. It was the largest of such buildings to occupy the site and, like many Mithraic temples, it was situated near a military base.

Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum

Located at the eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall - Wallsend, in North Tyneside - the Roman fort at Segedunum is the most completely excavated fort on Hadrian’s Wall.

The Senhouse Museum at Maryport houses the Senhouse collection of outstanding Roman objects from the adjacent fort known as Alauna.
