Birdoswald Roman Fort

Birdoswald is the place to see the longest surviving stretch of Hadrian’s Wall and extensive remains of a Roman Fort.

Pick up a leaflet for a picturesque circular walk that takes in the Wall, Fort milecastles, turrets, Roman bridge over the River Irthing, wildlife, an orchard and clear evidence of the turf wall that preceded Hadrian’s Wall itself.

The attraction also comprises of:

  • An exhibition -  a full size model of the Wall, interesting display about the story of the fort and its local landscape.
  • Birdoswald Tearoom - rest your weary legs and enjoy tearoom treats whilst walking or cycling the Hadrian's Wall National Trail
  • Birdoswald Farmhouse - accommodation sleeping up to 39 people. Find out more.

Birdoswald Roman Fort hosts a lively events programme, which aims to bring the Roman story on Hadrian's Wall to life. Find out more.
