With so much to see and do, a trip to Belsay is one of the best value family days out in North East England.
Start your visit at the Hall, an architectural masterpiece inspired by the temples of ancient Greece, with its fabulous Pillar Hall.
Explore the grand medieval castle, later extended to include a magnificent Jacobean mansion. See the story of Belsay brought to life with new projections and soundscapes in the castle, and don’t miss the stunning views from the top of the tower.
Take your time to explore thirty acres of enchanting gardens, with something new to discover every season. Explore the rejuvinated formal gardens, the open space near the castle and the much-loved Quarry Garden, which takes you on a spectacular journey through a dramatic rocky ravine.
Younger visitors can follow in the footsteps of the mythical Wild Man on the family trail through the grounds and gardens, and swing, climb and slide in the brand-new play area.
You’ll also find a welcoming new café in the old stables near the castle.
English Heritage looks after numerous sites along Hadrian’s Wall, such as Birdoswald Roman Fort, Housesteads Roman Fort & Museum, Chesters Roman Fort & Museum and Corbridge Roman Town, along with Carlisle Castle and Lanercost Priory. If you would like to visit multiple English Heritage sites, you can purchase either a temporary Overseas Visitor Pass or an Annual Membership.
