Chesters Roman Fort is the most complete Roman cavalry fort in Britain – wander around the unusually well-preserved baths and steam room, and the officers’ quarters. Discover an amazing collection of Roman objects and inscriptions in the Clayton Museum, re-launched in 2016.
After relaxing in English Heritage’s most tranquil Fort, head to the tearoom for light lunches made from local ingredients, sweet treats and hot and cold drinks.
English Heritage looks after numerous sites along Hadrian’s Wall, such as Housesteads Roman Fort, Chesters Roman Fort and Corbridge Roman Town, along with Carlisle Castle and Belsay Hall. If you would like to visit multiple English Heritage sites, you can purchase either a temporary Overseas Visitor Pass or an Annual Membership.
