Aydon Castle

A beautiful 13thC manor house with strong fortifications against Scottish raiders, Aydon Castle stands in a secluded woodland setting. This classic  castle is perfect for family games and picnics and is a great starting point for some woodland walks. 

English Heritage maintains multiple sites on Hadrian's Wall, such as; Carlisle Castle, Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald Roman Fort, Housesteads Roman Fort & Museum, Chesters Roman Fort & Museum, and Corbridge Roman Town. Aydon Castle is open for you to visit. You now need to book your timed tickets in advance. English Heritage have introduced limits on visitor numbers to help keep everyone safe, and you won’t be able to visit without your booking confirmation. If you’re a Member for English Heritage, your ticket will be free, but you still need to book in advance.
