Gateshead is home to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge linking Newcastle and Gateshead Quays, The Sage Gateshead, a landmark building on the banks of the River Tyne is an international home for music, and was designed by Norman Foster. The iconic BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is housed in a landmark industrial building on the south bank of the River Tyne and is the biggest gallery of its kind in the world, presenting a dynamic, diverse and international programme of contemporary visual art.
Gateshead MetroCentre is Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centre and it has everything you could possibly need for the perfect day out. With almost 330 shops including major department stores such as Debenhams, House of Fraser and Marks & Spencer, MetroCentre has something for everyone. Nowhere in Europe have you got more retailers, restaurants and leisure attractions for your complete enjoyment. All with free parking, late night opening and open seven days a week.
Gateshead, on the south bank of the Tyne also offers a wealth of shopping, sport and public art, perhaps the most famous being the award winning Angel of the North designed by Antony Gormley and which has proved to be a huge contribution to the tourism Gateshead has seen. It weighs 200 tons, is 20m high and has a 54m wing span.
