Humshaugh is a small village situated near where Hadrian’s Wall crossed the north Tyne. The bridge crossing the river at Chollerford was built in 1775 and the George Hotel next to it had many famous literary visitors. The 14th century Haughton Castle, and Chesters Roman Fort are also in the parish of Humshaugh. Chesters is in the care of English Heritage and is famous for its well preserved Roman Baths and its unique Edwardian archaeological museum.

The village itself boasts a popular local pub ‘The Crown’, renowned for its food, a post office and shop, a church, village hall, and children’s playing area and playing field. There is a cafe near the bridge, a cricket field and petrol stations.
