Hadrian’s Wall Country & the Climate Change & UNESCO Heritage Project

Start Exploring

Hadrian’s Wall Country has been selected as one of three locations in the UK for the Climate Change & UNESCO Heritage Project – studying the impact of climate change on cultural and natural heritage sites.

What is the Climate Change & UNESCO Heritage Project?
The project is commissioned by the UK National Commission for UNESCO and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, with Newcastle University leading the project at Hadrian’s Wall.
The aim is to explore, test, and develop how different communities, bodies, and organisations can work together to tackle the challenges of climate change across the UNESCO World Heritage site.

How Can You Help?
Newcastle University is working with the local communities and stakeholders to help design, develop, and test partnership working, share data, and analyse climate-related information.

Community workshops are being held to understand how climate change impacts the Wall and its communities, and what the future may look like.
