Schools across the country are being invited to take part in Hadrian’s Wall Live!, a FREE online event bringing Roman history straight into Key Stage 2 classrooms with no cost, no risk assessment and no coach booking required.
Now in its fifth year, the event runs from Tuesday 24 to Friday 27 November 2026 and is hosted by the Great North Museum: Hancock. Hadrian’s Wall Live! brings together museums, heritage sites and universities from along Hadrian’s Wall to deliver virtual sessions for pupils aged 7 to 11, directly mapped to the KS2 history curriculum’s study of the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.
Because every session is delivered live online via video link, schools anywhere in the country (or the world) can take part alongside those based closer to the Wall itself. There’s no cost and no logistical or financial barriers that often limit access to heritage sites. Last year’s event welcomed over 19,000 attendees and we are hoping for an even bigger turnout in 2026.
Sessions include –
Across the four days, the programme comprises 18 sessions in total, delivered by working archaeologists, historians and museum educators. Sessions include:
- Bathing at the Frontier, with Segedunum Roman Fort
- Counting on Hadrian’s Wall, with Newcastle University
- What does Hadrian’s Wall have to do with the English language?, with Classics for All: North East
- A day in the life of a working archaeologist, with Vindolanda Trust
- Decoding Roman Inscriptions, with Classics for All: East Midlands and Roman Inscriptions of Britain online
- Caring for Hadrian’s Wall, with Northumberland National Park
- Mystery of the Lanchester Diploma, with Durham University Museums

Sessions run each day from 9.30am to 1.45pm, and schools can book individual sessions to slot around existing timetables, or the full four days, all free of charge. Home-educating families are also welcome to take part.
The event is delivered by the Hadrian’s Wall Learning & Engagement Forum, a network of museum and heritage education professionals working across the Wall, including Segedunum Roman Fort, English Heritage, Vindolanda Trust, Tullie Museum and Art Gallery, Binchester Roman Fort, Northumberland National Park, Newcastle University, Durham University, The Open University, Classics for All and Historic Environment Scotland.
